Home of "Dances With Wolves"
The Triple U Buffalo Ranch (locally known as the Houck Ranch) has been raising American Bison, better known as buffalo, since 1959. It is home to over 3500 buffalo which roam on 60,000 acres of pure, natural prairie in central South Dakota. An abundance of other animals flourish here including Quarter horses, deer, antelope, coyotes, prairie dogs and many species of birds and other wildlife. It is currently owned and operated by the late Roy Houck's daughter, Kaye Ingle, and her family.
The ranch and the buffalo herd have been featured in many commercials and film documentaries worldwide. Much of the award-winning movie "Dances With Wolves" was filmed on the ranch, including Fort Sedgewick and the buffalo hunt. The prairie and the buffalo became world famous for their role in this epic film.
